A fine place to stay
RantsFinding a home on the Internet is difficult. The Internet is like the ocean, ever drifting forward. Every now and then I come across awesome platforms that I want to "move in" and bring all my old stuffs there. Unsurprisingly, this has scattered my stuffs everywhere. E-mails, blog accounts, password managers, etc. I am slowly having them sorted out, and I think I'll be done in a year or two.
My website is always changing. It's not because I redesign my websites often. It's because I am way too lazy to keep a blog or website for a long time. Look, journalism is boring for me, and writing long form posts aren't really my strength. But the idea of finding a new home often also isn't ideal. I have to setup everything every damn time. Domains, e-mails, etc. It's time consuming and not worth the hassle.
Earlier this year I discovered Scribbles, and it's been awesome ever since! Scribbles is constantly updated, and it's going strong. I don't see the need to move to yet another blogging platform. Sure, I have been toying with the idea of moving back to semi self-hosting via Vercel/GitHub Pages. But man, writing posts in the markdown format is unfun - setting the page frontmatters and writing my posts in markdown is unintuitive for me. I tried it, not a fan.
Last week I discovered Vincent gave a little overhaul to Scribble's UI. And along with it I see this:
Not gonna lie, this is a very big deal. I don't have to constantly compare which platform suits me the best again. Every platform has their weaknesses and strengths. I think Scribbles is only lacking in a few areas (2FA, comments, kudos w/o tinylytics). Everything else is awesome, and I really enjoy using it. With no ads and trackers, I feel Scribbles truly align with my vision; The simplistic yet thoughtful layout is another added bonus.
Now that I'm given a lifetime free account, I think I can move my cats blog over... That will be yet another side job for another day's afternoon.
