Won an auction, 🚀 a sideblog, and other things
RantsThings' been getting better for me recently. It seems like I will be getting a short term contract 🔜, for maybe 2-3 months. Can't complain, it's still a job.
Then I won an auction. I saw this auction at bids.lol and I thought, why not? Half of my donation will go to a charity, helping people in need. And in return I get my lifetime worth of awesome service at omg.lol platform. It's nothing fancy, the useful bits are profile page, a fancier looking now page, and URL redirect. They actually offer a lot more than that, but most of them I find them less useful for me. Check this out:
Pics is a photo sharing site like Flickr. I wish I could use it for hosting my website's pictures, then I will have one thing less to worry about. Email forwarding is practically useless for me. I can only receive emails with the l@omg.lol address, but not send one. If I must use omg.lol's service to send and receive emails, I can only use name@l.omg.lol which is cumbersome and unnecessarily long. Weblog.lol is way too barebones, and I will stay with Scribbles for the time being, that being said, once Neato releases and turns out to be a good product, I may yet again move my blog.
Proven.lol is a "Digital asset ownership proof for everyone", kinda like Twitter Blue, but for omg.lol members and is free. I also proved my ownership of karsten.ws here. Is it anti-forgery? No. Is it fun? Yes.
The biggest lure was their Mastodon instance social.lol, it's cleaner, and since everyone is a paying customer, I can be sure people I am engaging with are actual people, capable of rational thinking. Micro.blog's federated instance also kind of serves the same purpose, but uh... I like omg.lol more.
Oh, and I just launched another miniblog, this one is hosted on Vercel, powered by Hugo and my new custom Hugo theme BearlyHugo. I have to admit that I did enlist the help of GitHub Copilot in making the original BearlyJekyll theme and porting it to Hugo, but hey, it's a fun project, and I am not going to make money out of it. I am going to post my cats daily on it, to give them a place to live on, even after they eventually pass away to the next life.
